Many independent filmmakers find themselves in the position of not only bringing their film into fruition, but getting it in front of the public on their own as well. Army of One: PR & Marketing for The Indie Filmmaker takes readers through best practices in setting up your film to engage the public and market it from pre-production to post-production. Based on years of experience, filmmaker, film critic, film publicist, and festival director Kevin Sampson offers practical advice that you can immediately implement in your film’s PR and marketing strategy when YOU ARE the marketing team. Army of One teaches readers how to:
-Start building your community and create sustained engagement in pre-production;
-Develop and administer a social media marketing strategy that you can keep up with by yourself;
-Create and assemble behind-the-scenes media throughout the stages of production to use with your film’s marketing;
-Attract film critics to review your work through your website, e-mail, and in-person interactions;
-Navigate the film festival circuit in a way that doesn’t break the bank;
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the do-it-yourself nature of independent filmmaking, this book is for you!
About The Author
Film: Maker, Critic, Festival Director & Publicist
The fact that Kevin Sampson is not just a film critic, but a writer, producer, and director as well makes his understanding of cinema even better. Coming from a theoretical and hands on approach, he understands both sides of the struggle of viewing and creating great works. After receiving an MFA in Film & Electronic Media from American University in Washington, D.C in 2011, Kevin took his love for film to the next level by creating and producing Picture Lock, an entertainment website, radio show/podcast.
He has served as the director of the Rosebud Film Festival since 2013. He created the DC Black Film Festival in 2016 in an effort to create a space to exhibit quality productions by and about people of African descent.
In 2017 Kevin launched Picture Lock PR to represent some of the many great independent films he sees on a regular basis. Kevin received the 2018 Donald H. McGannon Award for his work with women and people of color in media.
